Marcus Family Reunion

FAQ

FAQs

Q1: The Clayton Hotel in Ballsbridge seems expensive for my budget. Do I have to stay there?
A: No. Although the Clayton Hotel in Ballsbridge is our base for the event you can of course stay anywhere in Dublin that fits your budget. We believe we have a competitive rate at the Clayton as most other similar style hotels in Dublin range from €225 to €300 per night. The Clayton also offers us the facilities we require for the Reunion.

Q2: Do I need to book my own hotel in Cork?
A: No. The committee has organised a group discount at the Clayton Hotel Cork City.  However, as in Dublin, you can stay anywhere in Cork that fits your budget. See more information on promotion codes here.

Q3: What is the deposit payment for?
A: The deposit is to secure the Reunion dinner and for seating at Johnny Foxes pub.

Q4: Do I have to pay a deposit for everyone attending in my group?

A: Yes. A €50 is required for each adult (18 and over) attending the Reunion. The deposit for children under 18 is €25.

Q5: Is there a shuttle bus from Dublin airport to the Clayton Hotel in Ballsbridge?
A: Yes – Aircoach.ie run a shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. Return fare on route 702 or 703 is €15. Please check route and timetable with Aircoach at time of booking. The Clayton Hotel itself does not provide a shuttle bus to/from the airport. A taxi will cost about €30 to €40.

Q6: What options do I have for renting a car? (for reserving taxi rides see answer to Q17 below)
A: If you are thinking of hiring a car for some or all of your stay in Ireland we suggest you book early in order to try and get a good deal. All the major car hire companies operate in Ireland and some good deals can be found on www.rentalcars.com.

With regards to insurance on any rented car we strongly suggest you get a quote from www.carhireexcess.com as their prices are significantly cheaper than those offered by the car hire companies themselves.

Q7:  Do I need to register to visit or attend any services at the Dublin Hebrew Congregation – formerly the  Terenure Shul?
A:  Yes. For visitors and people attending for the first time, please email the synagogue office for a booking link at dublinhebrew@gmail.com.

A: Yes. A Chabad House recently opened at 89 Rathmines Road Upper,  Rathmines. Kosher food and Friday night Shabbat meals are available.

Q9: Where can I get a recent copy of the Irish Jewish Travel Guide?
A: You can find a PDF version here.

Q10: What is the dress code for the Reunion dinner?
A: The dinner will be informal so smart casual or similar is appropriate. Be comfortable!

Q11:  How do I become an Irish citizen?
A: In short, one needs to have at least one grandparent born in Ireland.  For more details refer here.  (Note: The Reunion committee does not have access to originals of any birth certificates but is happy to assist with genealogy or other queries wherever possible.)

Q12: Are there any guides for navigating Kosher food in Ireland?
A: Yes! Here is a quick and comprehensive Kosher Guide compiled by Rabbi Dr Harvey Belovski of the Dublin Hebrew Congregation.

Q13:  I have bought my tickets – what now happens to my deposit?
A: The reason we have asked everyone for a deposit is to cover the running costs of the reunion, in particular transportation. We do not yet have exact costs for these but we are hopeful that the deposit will cover everything. Once we know the final costs we will let everyone know and deal with any refunds at that time.
